Skipper Otto Announces B Corp™ Certification
Vancouver-Based Community Supported Fishery Joins Global B Corp Community, Leveraging Business as a Force for Good
Wednesday, March 13, 2024: Traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations / Vancouver, BC – Skipper Otto Community Supported Fishery is pleased to announce that it is now a certified B Corporation™ (B Corp™), recognizing its deep commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
“From day one we have been dedicated to building a company that benefits our community and our environment. We are honored to be a certified B Corp,” said Sonia Strobel, Co-founder and CEO. “We are on a mission to show the fishing industry as a whole that it is possible to deliver quality seafood at competitive prices while paying living wages to fishing families and having a minimal impact on the environment.”
Certified B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Companies undergo a rigorous review process of environmental and social practices and policies and are given an overall impact score. Based on the B Impact Assessment™, Skipper Otto earned an overall score of 109.6, going well beyond the required score of 80 to qualify for B Corp certification.
“Skipper Otto is an excellent example of what we look for in Certified B Corporations. Its mission to keep small-scale fishing alive in Canada and protect ocean resources is a testament to its commitment to people and the planet. We’re pleased to have the company join our global community of B Corps,” said Sarah Silverman, Director, Marketing & Communications at B Lab US & Canada.
The B Corp certification is in addition to Skipper Otto becoming a certified Living Wage Employer in 2023 and continuing as an Ocean Wise partner. To learn more about Skipper Otto or to get direct access to wild-caught, West Coast seafood, please visit skipperotto.com.

About B Corp Certification
B Corp Certification assesses the overall social and environmental impact of a company. To achieve B Corp Certification, a company must meet a score of at least 80 points in the B Impact Assessment, an evaluation of a company’s positive impact, and pass a risk review, an evaluation of a company’s negative impact.
It must change its corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and exhibit transparency by allowing information about their B Corp Certification performance to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website. B Corps recertify every three years and, once certified, are expected to increase their score over time as they progress towards becoming more equitable, inclusive, and regenerative businesses.
