We Have a New Fisherman!

We brought onboard a new fisherman, Daniel, from the Hartley Bay First Nation, who has been fishing up North with Otto this week. Welcome aboard Daniel!

Getting funds together to pay for the up-front costs of fishing for a season can be very difficult.  Traditionally, fishermen are forced to either run up a line of credit to begin fishing which they hope to pay off in the fishing season, or they become endentured to a company which pays for their upfront costs but forces the fisherman to sell all of his/ her fish to the company at whatever price the company sets.  One of the great powers of the CSF is that, by paying for your share up front, fishermen are liberated from this predicament.  Your CSF dollars helped get Daniel up and running with a license and fuel so that another independent fisherman can get out there fishing this season.  We are very happy with Daniel’s skills, as he has already caught 150 Nass sockeye for our members on Monday and Tuesday this week.  And the rate that we pay our fisherman is, as always, substantially higher than they could get anywhere else on the fishing grounds, so Daniel is happy to be fishing for our CSF members!

In addition to Daniel’s catch, Otto and Leonard caught 250 beautiful sockeye so we have 400 Nass sockeye coming down to Vancouver for Friday.
