Skipper Otto’s Community Supported Fishery – Volunteer Opportunity

Skipper Otto’s CSF strengthens local food systems by connecting thoughtful citizens to small-scale fishermen and wild, fresh, high-quality sustainable seafood.

Overview:

The successful candidate will assist with engaging local community through social media and help out at fresh fish pick-ups, farmer’s markets, workshops, and community events. If interested, there may be opportunities to join our fisherman on the boats to assist with salmon gillnetting and crabbing.

Commitment:

  • 10 hours/week from late August – December 2013

Benefits:

  • Receive training in creative social media campaigning
  • Learn about BC fisheries, community engagement, and local food systems
  • Receive a share in our CSF ($250 in local, wild, sustainably caught seafood)

Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills, desire to learn, and a good sense of humor
  • Interest in local food systems
  • Physically fit (able to do all the lifting required to set up our market stand)
  • Driver’s license and comfort driving trucks an asset
