Skipper Otto Community Supported Fishery was founded in 2008 with just one fishing family and 40 members.

Since then, it has grown to support over 40 fishing families with over 8,000 members across Canada.

Our Mission:
  • To support the rebuilding of just, equitable, and resilient local food systems around the world
  • To protect a small-scale harvesting way of life
  • To reconnect fishing, farming, and harvesting families to local consumers
  • To conserve, protect, and regenerate delicate ecosystems

We are highly process-oriented and, over the years, have developed efficient systems and software tools that make operating a Community Supported Fishery stable and predictable, and able to pay living wages to harvesters and staff.

In 2021, Skipper Otto made the decision to turn its attention to the work of proliferating its unique food system model. Co-founder and CEO Sonia Strobel and COO Chris Kantowicz began mentoring other CSF operators and, in doing so, developed a consulting program which helps scale-up CSFs and CSAs from start-up phase through growth, and into stable, sustainable, high-impact businesses.
