Simple Whole Hake Recipe From Chef Ned Bell

We’re so excited to be able to offer BC hake to our members! Cooking a whole hake might sound daunting, but we’ve got you covered with this super simple recipe from our friend Chef Ned Bell. We invited him to our processor’s as they cut our first batch of hake for us earlier in April, and Ned took a few fish home for some recipe testing!

For this simple whole hake recipe, you’ll need:

Ingredients

  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • 1 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lemon, zest and juice

Directions

  1. Mix ingredients together, and brush over whole fish, inside and out. Leave to marinate for 30 mins.
  2. Begin preheating oven to 400 F.
  3. Using a sharp knife, cut fish into steaks.
  4. Bake fish on a sheet of parchment paper for 20 mins.
  5. Once baked to perfection, sprinkle with 1 tsp of kosher salt and enjoy!
