halibut halibut recipe

These grilled fish tacos are a great recipe to add to your rotation in the warmer months. Soft tortillas are topped with seasoned, grilled white fish, and two flavourful salsas for a quick and delicious meal the whole family will love. You can make these with any flaky white fish, like halibut, any species of rockfish, or lingcod (just adjust your cooking time accordingly).

Grilled Fish Tacos

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 limes
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • around 1 lb white fish (halibut, rockfish, lingcod, etc)
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • a bunch of cilantro
  • small red chillies (optional)
  • 8 tortillas

Directions

  1. Juice of one of the limes and whisk that juice together with the oil, garlic, cumin, chili powder, and paprika. Marinate the fish in the mixture for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the grill to 375 F.
  3. While the fish is marinating, make your toppings. Dice the avocado, red onion, and tomatoes so they’re roughly the same size. Roughly chop the cilantro, and slice the chillies (if using).
  4. In one bowl, toss the avocado together with the sliced chillies, half the onion and half the cilantro, and the juice of half a lime. Season with salt and pepper, and set aside.
  5. In another bowl, mix the tomatoes, the rest of the onion, the rest of the cilantro, and the juice of the other half of the lime. Season with salt and pepper, and set aside.
  6. After marinating, grill the fish for about 5-7 minutes, flip it over, and finish grilling until it is flaky and the internal temperature is 145 F.
  7. Prepare the tortillas according to the package.
  8. When the fish is cooked, break it into roughly 1/2 inch pieces, place them onto the tortillas, and top with your salsas. Serve with the wedges of the remaining lime and any extra sauce you like – hot sauce and sour cream are great options.
