Boasting a decadent cheese sauce made with sharp cheddar, Gruyere and Parmesan, tender pasta noodles, chunks of cooked Dungeness crab, and a seasoned Panko crust, our mac and cheese is a true crowd-pleaser. What better dish to serve to loved ones over the holidays!

Servings: 6-8 people

Prep Time: ~40 mins | Cook Time: ~30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 Dungeness crab, cooked and meat removed
  • 450 grams of medium pasta (macaroni, penne, rigatoni)
  • ½ cup salted butter
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Topping

  • ½ cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 lemon, zest only

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then cook pasta according to package directions, until al dente.
  3. While pasta is cooking, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once bubbling, stir in the flour and seasonings, and cook for another minute or so until golden.
  4. Slowly add the milk and half-and-half to the flour mixture, whisking continuously. Simmer over medium heat for a few minutes until the sauce begins to thicken, stirring often. Remove from heat and stir in the cheeses, whisking until smooth and the cheese has completely melted.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the ingredients for the topping. Set aside.
  6. Transfer the al dente pasta to a large baking dish (approximately 9 x 13 inches). Pour the sauce over the pasta, gently stirring to combine. Add half of the cooked crab meat and stir to distribute.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining crab meat over the top, then finish with the seasoned panko mixture.
  8. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until bubbling and golden.
