For 2015, we will be having monthly seafood pickups at Urban Digs Farm, (4992 Byrne Road) in Burnaby! Members will receive the same benefits and service as our Vancouver pickups and markets. This all builds off the success of our pilot run in 2014.

Urban Digs Farm is a small farm in South Burnaby that produces sustainable vegetables, meat and eggs to families and restaurants in Metro Vancouver. I asked Sonia how she found out about the fine folks at Urban Digs and she told me:

We met Julia at the Slow Money conference this spring and quickly realized, as Julia said “Hey, you guys are the ocean version of us!” our values and mission are very closely aligned with Urban Digs and we are working on a lot of the same pieces in food sovereignty in BC including cold storage, processing, and distribution. We’re excited to be partnering with Urban Digs to make big changes happen in our food systems.

So, if you are looking for the meat and veggie version of your Skipper Otto’s sustainable seafood look no further – we found them and they are in Burnaby!

Visiting the farm is such a great family activity but make sure to bring your rubber boots rain or shine! Farm tours are free and you can visit the ducks, chickens and 3 generations of pigs including the newest addition who is just about 9 weeks old! If the weather is nice there is also a park down the road with a playground and miles of walking and biking trails. In addition to getting some fresh air you can also pickup your local organically grown veggies and pasture raised meat. This weekend you’ll find lot’s of seasonal fruits & veggies, eggs, beef, chicken, pork – including bacon! – , pickles, baked goods, and more!
