Tuna Tartare With Dates, Olive And Pistachios

Say hello to your new favourite appetizer, our tuna tartare with dates, green olives and pistachios!

We know what you’re probably thinking… dates with tuna? But hear us out! In this recipe, the saltiness of the green olives and pistachios is balanced by the sweetness of the medjool dates, providing the perfect backdrop for our delicious wild Albacore tuna. This mixture is then brought to life with a generous squeeze of fresh lemon and herbs, and finished with flaky sea salt and olive oil. It truly is a match made in heaven.

Servings:  4 people as an appetizer

Prep Time: ~20 mins

Ingredients

  • Albacore tuna half loin (approx 0.5lb), thawed and diced
  • 1 small shallot, diced
  • 4 medjool dates, pit removed and diced
  • 6-8 Castelvetrano olives, diced
  • 2 tbsp shelled pistachios, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, finely sliced
  • 1 lemon, zest and juice
  • Olive oil
  • Flakey sea salt
  • Cracked black pepper
  • Toasted French baguette or crackers, for serving

Directions

  1. Combine the tuna, shallot, medjool dates, olives, and pistachios in a bowl.
  2. Next, add the lemon zest and juice (beginning with the juice of only half a lemon), chives, a generous glug of olive oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. Stir to combine, taste and adjust seasoning as necessary (often more lemon or salt).
  4. Serve on a plate and garnish with a final drizzle of olive oil and chives.

Notes

  • This recipe can be served with your choice of toasted bread, crackers, tortilla chips or even wonton crackers!
  • Are you feeling experimental? Try swapping out the lemon juice and zest for an orange or grapefruit.
