#DonateMPNH

Every year since 2009 Skipper Otto’s has carried on a tradition of donating unused shares to community organizations in need of food donations. In the past we have donated to the Vancouver Food Bank, Food Runners, and to several private, low-income families. This summer we donated over $1000 of salmon, tuna, and halibut to Food Runners who delivered it to WISH, a drop-in centre for women.

Based on member requests, we’ve now made it possible for members who join again for 2015 to roll over their unused 2014 shares to the 2015 season. However, donations of healthy, sustainable, quality food are so important to what we do at Skipper Otto’s that we feel it’s imperative to keep this tradition alive. And so, this fall we are inviting our members to join us in making donations to Mount Pleasant Neighborhood House through their CSF shares.

Mount Pleasant Neighborhood House (MPNH) offers diverse programming near the Broadway and Fraser area of Mount Pleasant providing much needed services to a broad range of community members from babies through to seniors as well as providing specific programming to Aboriginals and immigrant participants. Donations of frozen fish would go towards numerous programs at the MPNH including the Mount Pleasant Food Networks which seeks to strengthen food systems in Mount Pleasant. Donations will also go towards providing lunches and snacks for children in daycare, lunches for seniors, and meals for community and cultural events.

We’ve made donating really easy! Login to our online store as you would to place an order for pick-up and click on the “Donations for Mount Pleasant Neighborhood House” store. You can then browse through the different donation products we’ve put together. As soon as you place your order the amount you have donated will come off your share. If you don’t have enough credit left in your share for the size of donation you want to make you can always top up your share in the same way you would for your own orders, by paying by cheque or credit card at any of our pick-ups. For all donations over $25, a tax receipt will be issued from MPNH.

Our goal is to raise $2000 in seafood donations for MPNH or 500 seafood meals by December 18th. We can’t reach our goal without your help! Please login today to place your order for MPNH. Even if you cannot donate please help us spread the word on Facebook and Twitter using the #DonateMPNH. And thank you for joining us in our Community Donations Project!
