2021 season fishing season seafood availability season guide seasonality sustainable seafood

Fishing is a difficult industry to plan, but we still like to have an idea of what to expect when! That’s why we do our best to predict what our fishing families will be catching, and when we expect it will be available for our members with our 2021 seasonality guide.

As we get further into the spring, we’ll get insights from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, scientific reports, and traditional wisdom, and we’ll have spoken with each of our fishing families about their plans for the season. We’ll update our guide with new info as we get it. And remember: these are our best predictions only – fishing always surprises us, and eating with the ecosystem means we’re at the whim of Mother Nature!

2021 Seasonality Guide

This chart shows month by month when we expect these species to be caught/harvested. It doesn’t mean we won’t have them in stock other times of the year (thank you, flash freezing!) but it does indicate when they’re likely to be available again if they are currently sold out. Remember that the weather, abundance, specific fishing openings, access to fish cutting and freezing services, and many other factors will also determine exactly when each species will be available for pick-up!

As a reminder, fresh and live products are only available at our False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf pick-up location in Vancouver, however all our flash-frozen, canned, dried, and smoked products are available at all our pick-up locations.

The Difference Flash-Freezing Makes

All of our flash-frozen products keep their catch-day freshness and nutrition for a very long time, so there’s no need to stop eating seafood through the winter. The high vitamin D levels in seafood make it especially valuable to have in your diet during the dark winter months! We recommend stocking up at your last pick-up of the year to get the best selection and to keep you eating seafood right through until your first pick-up of the new year!
